Statistical Studies 2/4/2016

Sam is not here, so be nice to your sub. Record your Feltron data and work on the seven Statistical Studies exercises on Khan Academy.

If you finish, please don't become a disturbance. It would be rude, and people would judge you.

You can: do work for another class, or work on review on Khan Academy. If you want more statistics, read this amazing book, Statistics Done Wrong.

Of course, you may not finish in class, in which case just finish it for homework. Or rather, spend an hour at home, and if you don't finish, let me know. Also, if you are struggling, you can email me questions, but be specific.

Please do work. Please don't distract your classmates. If you're done, offer help; if you're having trouble, ask for help!

Sam, Kahn Academy is not working for Statistical Studies as many questions are confusingly worded and getting one wrong sets you back to the beginning. I am very frustrated with this and it is hard to continue with such cruel crushing practices.

So, let's talk about what makes this project hard: actually collecting data. It's not hard, but somehow, doing it every day is hard. It's easy to miss a day... then two... then all the sudden, you have missed a bunch, and it's scary and you don't want to think about it, so you don't do it. So we are going to preempt all that by putting some work in today to make it hard to forget. First, we will make a Google form. I started it for you, all you is copy it and add your 4 variables . Once you have that, you are going to use a cool feature of Google Sheets to have google email you this form every day. If someone tells you they don’t believe humans are causing it, you might want to ask them if smoking is bad for you. Why? I wanted to mention to you all that a mathematician and artificial intelligence researched named Marvin Minsky died on Sunday.
